Weekend Art Challenge – Copy Your Favourite Artwork

This weekends challenge is a little bit different. We would like you to recreate your favourite painting or drawing, either as a copy or in your own style, as homage to your favourite artist. We would like you to show us your artwork and also include the artwork that you worked from telling us about the original artist and why you admire them.

For a little inspiration, the first painting below is a copy I created using traditional oils, whilst at school at aged 18, entitled ‘A Wheatfield, with Cypresses’ 1889 by artist Vincent van Gogh. You can see the original Van Gogh below my own. The painting was only a small study 7×6 inches whereas the original was 28 x 35 inches. So mine was painted on a much smaller scale. I studied a variety of artists whilst doing my a’levels and both Van Gogh and Mondrian were among my favourite artists. I gained a lot of inspiration from studying them. So thats my story behind the painting.

You can create your artwork to any size and in any medium as long as it can be photographed and emailed to us or posted on our facebook group along with the original. We are very much looking forward to hearing about your favoruite artists and seeing your artwork. A big thanks to student Shamina Chowdhury giving us the idea for this challenge!
