We are delighted to share some wonderful work from Nina Silva Lovera, who has just completed our Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma Course with tutor Paul Weaver, and achieved a Distinction! Congratulations, Nina!
Nina came to the course hoping to develop her skills, her confidence and her portfolio, and it is clear she has done all three. Her illustrations are packed with warmth, humour and lovable characters, from a shaggy Highland cow cradling a little yellow bird by the sea, to a worried young dragon watching a cottage roof go up in flames while a tiny mouse firefighter rushes to the rescue.
Nina moves confidently between soft pastels, watercolour, pencil and pen, and even a paper collage. Her playful night time scene of a city built from bathroom bottles shows a real gift for turning everyday objects into a magical world. What really stands out is how much thought goes into every piece. Her character sketches and sheep studies show the careful groundwork behind each finished piece, and it all comes together in illustrations that feel ready to step straight into a picture book.
