When returning to art after summer, it is tempting to set ambitious plans. New routines, longer sessions and big goals can feel motivating at first, but they are often hard to sustain.
Simple routines tend to work best.
A routine does not need to be rigid or time-consuming. It only needs to be realistic. Short, regular moments are usually far more effective than occasional long sessions that are difficult to fit in.
Try thinking in terms of when rather than how much. Linking art to an existing habit, such as a quiet moment in the evening or a particular day of the week, can make it easier to maintain.
A routine should support you, not add pressure. If it feels too demanding, it is okay to adjust it.
If you are looking for a way to build this gently, our Weekend Art Challenges, posted here on the blog every Friday, can act as a regular creative anchor without overcommitting.
Consistency grows from simplicity.
