Many artists feel guilty if they take a break from drawing or painting. There can be a sense that stopping means losing progress or falling behind.
In reality, breaks are a natural part of any long-term creative practice.
Stepping away for a short time can give you space to rest, reflect and return with fresh eyes. It does not erase what you have learned or undo your progress.
Creativity often continues quietly in the background, even when you are not actively making work. Ideas, observations and inspiration still gather, ready for when you return.
If you do take a break, try to let it be intentional rather than filled with guilt. Art will still be there when you are ready.
And when you do feel like picking things up again, our Weekend Art Challenges, posted here on the blog every Friday, offer a gentle way back in without overthinking.
