Jeannet Klooker – Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma Course

We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Jeannet Klooker on completing the Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma Course with a very well-deserved Distinction!

Jeannet is based in the Netherlands and came to the course with a dream of illustrating a children’s book, and looking at the wonderful work she has produced throughout her studies, that dream feels very much within reach. As her tutor Paul Weaver noted, Jeannet put a huge amount of effort into her work, explored a wide range of different media, and has developed a genuinely lovely quirky style that is very much her own.

And what a style it is! There is a warmth and wit running through everything Jeannet has created, from a cheerful cow cradling a chicken in a sunny meadow, to a giraffe leaning down to touch noses with a monkey balanced on a ball, and a delightfully cheeky dachshund standing proud on a red chair with a hummingbird perched above and a cat lurking below. Her colourful, bold compositions are full of character and gentle humour, and her willingness to experiment is evident throughout, with work ranging from digital illustration and paper collage to pen and ink, gouache and mixed media painting.

One of the real standout pieces is her wonderfully inventive cross-section illustration showing the hidden world beneath a kitchen, full of tiny creatures and comic detail. Her Halloween illustration, combining her own poem with a striking black and white design, shows real versatility and confidence too.

Jeannet, it has been a pleasure showcasing your work and we wish you every success with your children’s book ambitions. We have a feeling we will be seeing your illustrations on bookshelves before too long!
