Weekend Art Challenge – Pastel

Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge, where we set our students the task of creating artwork on any subject or theme using pastels. We were so impressed by the creativity, skill, and effort that you all put into your pieces this week – well done to everyone!

We were particularly struck by the way that you all interpreted the challenge in your own unique way. Some of you chose to focus on the technical aspects, such as using a limited colour pallet. Others chose to explore more personal themes. No matter what approach you took, your work was all incredibly beautiful and thought-provoking.

Our featured image is by student Serafine Christine who’s first attempt at pastels was a copy of Dega’s painting ‘Dancers After Degas’ and we absolutely love it. Scroll down to see the full painting.

Thank you to everyone for participating in this weekends challenge. We hope you all had a lot of fun, and We look forward to seeing what you come up with for the next challenge tomorrow!

I’ve used soft and hard pastels for this challenge.
I really do find pastels a hard medium. Struggling a bit with doing the pastel course so feeling a bit unsure of them
