We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Ailie Turton on completing the Drawing and Painting Diploma Course with a very well-deserved Distinction. Ailie studied under the guidance of tutor Paul Weaver, who tells us that “Ailie really applied herself to the syllabus and her work certainly improved throughout.” High praise indeed, and entirely borne out by the wonderful pieces she has produced.
Ailie came to the course with around ten years of art class experience behind her, including regular life drawing and self-directed projects, but felt she wanted more structure and a broader grounding in the fundamentals. That dedication to genuine learning shines through in every piece she has submitted. Across the course, Ailie has explored an impressive range of subjects and media, from confident ink figure drawings that capture quiet, absorbed moments with real economy of line, to richly layered mixed media interiors full of warmth and domestic detail. Her still life work shows a strong grasp of tone and form, whether working in pencil, charcoal or paint, and there is a boldness to her colour work that speaks of a student who has truly embraced the possibilities of the medium.
It has been a real pleasure watching Ailie grow in confidence and skill throughout her studies, and we wish her every happiness as she continues her artistic journey. Congratulations, Ailie, on a thoroughly well-deserved result!
