We are delighted to share the work of Jo McFarlane, who is is currently working on the Illustration Diploma here at the London Art College. Jo is studying under the expert guidance of tutor Steven Hersey.
Jo’s artwork below is a wonderful showcase from figurative pencil studies, lively children’s book illustrations to wonderfully observed chicken characters. Jo has developed a confident illustration voice and shows real charm and narrative invention in her work. The “Flying Squad” sketchbook spread bursts with ideas with crocs and spades and sandcastles and umbrellas.
Jo’s chicken illustrations show a beautifully observed pencil study of a hen in the grass, to hens splashing in a paddling pool and one particularly glamorous bird admiring herself in an oval mirror, complete with feather boa, straw hat and green handbag! These are all wonderful and have made us smile when viewing them and we hope they make you smile too.
We are all looking forward to seeing her final illustrations and can’t wait to see where her illustration journey takes her next.
