We are absolutely delighted to share this wonderful collection of artwork from our London Art College students today, and what a collection it is.
One of the things we love most about our community here at the college is the sheer variety of subjects our students choose to explore. Given a brush, a pencil, or a digital tool, every artist finds their way to the subjects that speak to them personally, and the results are always fascinating. Today’s post is a perfect example of that.
Paris clearly has a special place in many of our students’ hearts. We have misty Montmartre stairways, a couple sheltering under a red umbrella in the rain, and a dreamy view of the Eiffel Tower framed by an open window, each one a completely different interpretation of the same beloved city, and each one entirely its own thing.
The natural world is equally well represented. We have a sun-dappled river winding through lush summer trees, a beautifully observed stone village with an arched bridge, and a gloriously detailed narrowboat moored on a peaceful canal. There is real skill and patience on show in these pieces, with textures and light handled with great confidence.
Then there are the wilder, more imaginative works. Underwater worlds seem to have captured several imaginations, from a richly coloured coral reef teeming with life, to a breathtaking scene of a mermaid riding a whale surrounded by ocean creatures, to a thoroughly joyful underwater band playing to an audience of sharks and crabs. And if that were not enough, there is a charming countryside illustration that would sit perfectly on the pages of a children’s book, and an exquisite oil still life with a silver teapot that stops you in your tracks.
What unites all of this work is not the subject or the medium, but the enthusiasm and commitment each student has brought to their practice. Every piece here tells you something about the person who made it, what they love, what excites them, what they wanted to explore.
