September can bring a strong sense of “fresh start” energy. While this can be motivating, it can also lead to unrealistic expectations about what you should achieve in the months ahead.
It is worth remembering that progress in art is rarely linear.
Not every week will be productive, and not every piece will feel successful. Setting overly ambitious goals can turn creativity into a source of pressure rather than enjoyment.
A more helpful approach is to focus on steady, sustainable engagement. Showing up regularly, even in small ways, is far more valuable than pushing too hard and burning out.
Try to set intentions rather than targets. Intentions leave room for life, energy levels and changing circumstances.
