Option 1: Spooky Halloween – Adults
For those who enjoy atmosphere and drama, this challenge is all about creating a spooky Halloween scene.
Think pumpkins glowing in the dark, eerie full moons, haunted houses, witches flying across the night sky, or shadowy figures in the mist. You could go for something fun but eerie, or really lean into the mysterious side of Halloween.
Any medium is welcome from pencil, watercolour, acrylics, pastels, digital, or mixed media. Focus on dramatic lighting and bold contrasts to give your work that Halloween mood.
Tip: Try experimenting with a limited palette of orange, black, and purple. These classic Halloween shades instantly set the scene and can produce striking effects.
Option 2: Friendly Halloween – Kids and Families – and Adults Who Want to Join In Too!
If you prefer the lighter side of Halloween, this option is all about fun and friendly pictures.
Think smiling pumpkins, cheerful ghosts, trick-or-treaters in costumes, black cats in witches’ hats, or even bags full of sweets. You could draw a whole scene, or just one happy Halloween character.
This option is perfect for children, beginners, or anyone who wants to have fun with bright colours and playful themes.
Ideas to try:
- A pumpkin patch full of grinning jack-o’-lanterns
- A ghost carrying a bag of sweets
- A cat wearing a witch’s hat
- An owl perched on a broomstick
- Trick-or-treaters in colourful costumes
Tip: Use bright oranges, purples, and greens for a fun palette. If you are working in pencil or pen, a splash of colour from markers or crayons can really bring your picture to life.
