Raihaan Akram

We are delighted to showcase a selection of artwork by Raihaan Akram, who is studying on the Drawing with Pens Course with tutor Monika Cilmi.

Raihaan’s pieces demonstrate just how versatile pen drawing can be. From expressive landscapes and detailed floral studies to stylised character drawings, his work explores both line and tone in creative ways. The use of cross-hatching, stippling, and bold outlines shows how pen techniques can create contrast, texture, and depth, while the addition of colour washes in some of the studies adds another layer of interest.

One of the great things about drawing with pens is that it encourages artists to work confidently with line. Unlike pencil, where mistakes can be erased, pen drawing is all about learning to trust your marks and use them to build character and energy in a piece. Raihaan’s studies are a wonderful example of this approach, and it is exciting to see how he has experimented with different subjects and styles.

If you are inspired by Raihaan’s work and would like to develop your own pen drawing skills, why not take a look at our Drawing with Pens Course. The course covers a wide variety of techniques, from line drawing and texture to combining pen with colour, helping students to gain confidence and explore the expressive potential of this medium.

Well done, Raihaan – we look forward to seeing more of your pen drawings as you continue your studies!
