We are incredibly proud of our wonderful tutor Heather Jolliffe, who recently took part as one of the Wildcard artists for Sky Arts and what a day it was!
Heather joined 50 fellow artists for filming in St James’s Park, London, on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year. With easels, paints and plenty of sunblock in tow, the Wildcard group created an energetic, creative corner in the middle of the capital, watched not only by the cameras, but by curious passers by wondering what this pop-up art camp was all about.
“It was quite a day, unlike anything I’d done before. Not the painting part but being filmed, chatting with the public and painting alongside 50 other Wildcards was an experience in itself!”
Heat, Hats and Highlights
Heather came fully prepared for the summer sun, hat firmly in place and sunblock applied. She worked in acrylics, which can be tricky outdoors on a hot day, but managed to pull it off without drying out or disaster.
Although she can’t share her painting just yet (no spoilers before the show airs in Spring 2026!), she hinted that her final piece captured what caught her eye on the day, not necessarily the “perfect view,” but something that felt right in the moment.
The Wildcard Experience
“The camaraderie in the Wildcard camp was brilliant — such an ‘all in it together’ feeling.”
From setting up with fellow artists to being filmed and interviewed, Heather’s experience was full of lively moments (including a nearby artist’s chair collapsing mid-paint, though not hers, thankfully!). She also had a brief chat with Tai Shan Schierenberg, which we hope makes it past the editing room!
Sky Arts, she says, ran a “smooth ship” and looked after the group beautifully, helping create an inspiring and supportive atmosphere throughout.
A Big Thank You
Special thanks went to Heather’s brother, who played chauffeur and all-round goffer for the day, driving her to London, helping with gear and making sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.
What’s Next?
Heather is already planning to wear her Wildcard t-shirt for Meet the Artist Day at her local gallery in Lymington, a lovely chance to continue sharing the story and celebrate this milestone.
We’ll be watching closely when the episode airs in Spring 2026 and cheering Heather on from the comfort of our studio chairs!
