Monday Art Musings – Looking Back at Your Artwork Without Judgement

As the year begins to draw to a close, it can be tempting to look back at your artwork and judge it harshly. You may focus on what you think you should have done differently, or what you feel did not turn out as planned.

Looking back can be useful, but only if it is done kindly.

Rather than asking whether pieces are good or bad, try noticing patterns instead. What subjects did you return to? What mediums did you enjoy working with most? Where did you feel more confident than before?

Artwork tells a story about how you have been working, not just what you have produced. Sketches, unfinished pieces and experiments all form part of that story.

If you choose to look back, do so with curiosity rather than criticism. You are not assessing your worth as an artist. You are simply noticing where you have been.

If you would like a gentle focus to work from this week, our Weekend Art Challenges, shared here on the blog every Friday, continue to offer relaxed themes to explore without judgement.
