Weekend Art Challenge Results!

Welcome to this week’s Weekend Art Challenge results, where we set our students the task of creating artwork inspired by the letter O. We are absolutely delighted with the response, and what a creative and wonderfully varied collection it has produced!

The letter O clearly sparked a wealth of inspiration, with students finding their O subjects everywhere from their own gardens to the deep prehistoric past. Nature featured strongly throughout the entries, with orchids, osteospermum daisies, orange cotoneaster berries, olives and a magnificent eagle owl all making an appearance, alongside animals including ostriches, an orangutan and even an octopus given the digital treatment.

The ocean was a particular favourite this week, drawn to beautifully across several pieces, and Clare deserves a special mention for her dedication in submitting four paintings, all exploring the oceans and life of the Ordovician period with real imagination and a wonderful sense of scientific curiosity.

We also want to give a very warm welcome to Jayne C, who submitted her charcoal orangutan sketch for the very first time this week. We hope it is the first of many!

Thank you to everyone who took part. The O challenge has brought out some truly outstanding work, and we loved every single entry. Stay tuned for another challenge tomorrow!

This is the fourth of my four letter ‘O’ pictures. This is a scene from the ORDOVICIAN period, when most life was in the oceans but some of the first plants were starting to live on land. This is also ink and watercolour outlines with fineliner on cartridge paper.

I had some fun hand-colouring a cartoon portrait of an Ostrich family for this weekend’s challenge.
Thank you!

1) Octogonal Octopus – I made this art using GIMP and mainly focused on experimenting all types of filters and gave me an oppurtunity to explore the outcome of using different types of filters.
2) Olives – Made on watercolour paper with paint.
Thanks,

Here is a very deep OCEAN for the letter ‘O’. I’ve really enjoyed the letter O, because I love oceans. All my letter ‘O’ pictures are a mixture of ink and watercolour or gouache on cartridge paper.
