Many artists move quickly from one piece to the next, especially when they feel unsure or impatient to improve. While variety has its place, there is real value in spending longer with a single piece of work.
Returning to the same drawing or painting allows you to see it differently. Problems that felt overwhelming at first often become clearer with time and distance.
Working on one piece over several sessions can also build patience and confidence. You learn to pause, reflect and respond rather than rush to a conclusion.
Spending longer does not mean forcing a piece to be finished. It simply means giving it space to develop and seeing what it needs rather than abandoning it too soon.
If you tend to move on quickly, try staying with one piece a little longer than usual. You may be surprised by what you discover.
