We are delighted to share the wonderful work of Sabine Muhr, who has just completed our Landscape Painting Diploma Course with tutor Paul Weaver. We are thrilled to say she has finished with a well deserved Distinction! Congratulations, Sabine!
Looking through Sabine’s work, the first thing that strikes us is the sheer variety. There are sunset skies in oils, riverside views with church spires mirrored in the water, a fallen log on a lakeshore beneath mountains, sunlit silver birches, and a beautiful circular landscape full of spring greens. Alongside the paintings sit pencil and pen studies, from a busy Vienna street scene to grazing horses drawn in ink. It is clear that Sabine has embraced every part of the course, and she has done so with energy and curiosity.
Her skies deserve a special mention. Sabine has spent time studying them closely. Her clouds have weight and movement, with thick, confident brushwork catching the last light of the evening, and the colours shift beautifully from cool greys and blues into warm yellows and peach. Skies are notoriously difficult to paint well, as they change so quickly, but Sabine captures that fleeting quality wonderfully. We also love her street scenes, particularly the tall brick chimney against a bright winter sky and the cyclists heading off along a sunny path.
A Very Special Painting
Our featured piece is one that holds a very personal meaning for Sabine. The panorama shows two churches in Großpetersdorf, in the south of Burgenland, Austria, seen across a sunny meadow dotted with fruit trees. The painting now hangs in the Gasthof Strohriegel, a guesthouse with a lovely restaurant. Sabine tells us that the current junior “boss” married one of her nieces this year! What a lovely way for a painting to find its home.
Sabine, thank you so much for sharing your work with us, and huge congratulations once again on your Distinction. It has been a real joy to and we can’t wait to see where your painting takes you next!
