A Beautiful Farewell from Nurgül Ozkeser

We are delighted to share the final piece of work from Nurgül Ozkeser, who has just sent in her diploma assignment for the Botanical Art in Coloured Pencil course, studying with tutor Grainnie Murphy. Nurgül asked if we would add her last work to our page, and we are more than happy to do so, because it is truly lovely.

Nurgül has kept to a soft, muted palette of pinks, warm greys and earthy browns, which ties every element together and echoes the faded tones of the real rose beautifully. Coloured pencil takes real patience to build up in layers like this, and she has achieved wonderfully smooth, subtle blending across the petals, giving them a lovely sense of weight and curve.

The leaves are drawn with care, each with its fine network of veins and serrated edges, exactly the kind of close observation that botanical art is all about. The bird is a real highlight too and brings life and movement to the whole composition.

Nurgül sent us a message along with her assignment:

“I loved you all, it was an enjoyable course. Be happy, stay happy.”

Thank you so much, Nurgül, we have loved having you with us too! Your hard work and attention to detail really shine through in this final piece, and we are wishing you the very best with your diploma. We are also delighted to hear you are planning to join another course in November or December once your lessons are a little less busy. We will be very happy to welcome you back, and we can’t wait to see what you create next.
