Weekend Art Challenge Results

Welcome to the results of our latest Weekend Art Challenge, where we set our students a colour challenge built around the beautiful pairing of blue and coral. It is a combination full of contrast and warmth, the cool calm of blue set against the glow of coral, and you made the very most of it. The whole gallery this week feels fresh, harmonious and full of life.

What has been so lovely to see is the sheer variety of subjects the theme inspired. There is a coral coloured seahorse nestled among the reef, a striking portrait worked on toned blue paper, a dramatic wave scene taking its cue from Hokusai’s Great Wave, some playful abstract shapes, and a wonderfully characterful flamingo collage. The mediums are just as varied, with watercolour, pastel pencils, soft pastels, acrylics and cut paper all making an appearance, each showing off the palette in its own way. It is a real treat to see how differently the same two colours can be interpreted.

Thank you to everyone who took part and shared such thoughtful, colourful work. We hope you enjoyed exploring this palette as much as we enjoyed seeing the results, and do stay tuned, because a brand new Weekend Art Challenge will be posted here tomorrow. I did collage for this challenge. Drew each flamingo on a pink paper and glue on blue paper. Some drawing done with white, blue and orange pens on it. I made too much effort for this. So, I framed it. It is not perfect as gluing is causing some creases on paper but it looks like some movement.
