Welcome to the results of our latest Weekend Art Challenge, where we set our students the subject of lighthouses. There is something so appealing about a lighthouses and it is a theme that lends itself beautifully to painting or drawing them as a focal feature in artwork.
The variety on show has been lovely. From breezy coastal watercolours to a striking charcoal and chalk study worked on black paper, and even a beautifully hand printed linograph of the Louisbourg Lighthouse in Nova Scotia, each piece captures the character of these coastal landmarks in its own way. Some of you painted real lighthouses from reference while others happily invented their own, and it has been a treat to see watercolour pencils, pen, pencil, printmaking and more all brought into play. One student even spent the best part of a whole day bringing their print to completion, which is real dedication and well worth it.
Thank you to everyone who took part and shared such thoughtful work. We hope you enjoyed this one as much as we did, and do stay tuned, because a brand new Weekend Art Challenge will be posted here tomorrow. We cannot wait to see what you create next.

From 8:30am this morning till 10:20pm this work has finally been called finished. If ever one gets the chance I recommend visiting Nova Scotia, Canada for there are many Light Houses, and Ocean views that are truly mesmerizing.
