As artists, it is easy to constantly analyse our progress. We compare recent work to past pieces and look for clear signs of improvement.
While reflection can be useful, too much analysis can become discouraging.
Progress in art often shows up quietly. It appears in confidence, decision-making and ease, rather than dramatic leaps in quality. These changes can be hard to spot if you are always looking for proof.
Sometimes it helps to simply keep going without measuring every step. Trust that regular practice, even when it feels uneven, is building something over time.
Noticing progress does not have to mean judging it. It can be as simple as recognising that you are still showing up.
