Weekend Art Challenge – Letter P Results!

P is for prolific, and this week’s challenge certainly brought out the best in our students! We set the letter P as the theme and left the interpretation entirely open, and what a wonderfully varied response we received. Poppies, ponies, pangolins, pot plants, portraits and periwinkles all made an appearance, worked in everything from watercolour and pastel pencils to charcoal, acrylic and fine liner. It is always a delight to see how a single letter can spark so many different creative directions!

What was particularly lovely about this collection was the way students found their own personal angle on the theme. Some headed straight for the garden, capturing the delicate beauty of poppies and pot plants in bloom, while others looked to the animal kingdom for inspiration, from a pony rendered in soft pastels to a brilliantly characterful pangolin. There were portraits, playful cartoons and even a Peruvian dog with an enviably punky hairstyle, proving that P really does have something for everyone!

The variety of media on show was equally impressive, with students working in watercolour, pastel pencils, charcoal, acrylic, oil pastels, fine liner and more. It is always wonderful to see so many different approaches sitting side by side, each one a reflection of the individual artist behind it.

Thank you so much to everyone who took part and shared their work with us this week. What a fantastic collection of P-powered artwork!

Weekend Art Challenge; P is for Periwinkle
Justin
Your weekend challenge led me to look at a Peruvian dog which was sporting a very punky hairstyle. Consequently I’ve exaggerated this and I’m hoping to create some cartoon characters.

P is for Poppy
Poppy is the name of my friend’s dog who has been staying with us this weekend. I have drawn her in pencil with watercolour poppy flowers behind her.

P is for plant.
I sat outside and drew this plant from life. It is in a pot in my garden, I don’t know what the plant is called but it has beautiful flowers. It is painted in watercolour with fine liner.
