There are days when sitting down to make art feels harder than usual. You might feel low, tired or simply not in the right headspace to concentrate on something serious or demanding.
On days like this, it can help to change what you make rather than forcing yourself to work in the usual way.
Working with colour can be surprisingly uplifting. Bright, bold or playful colours allow you to respond instinctively rather than analytically. You do not need a clear subject or plan. The act of choosing colours, moving paint around and letting it flow can be enough.
This is not about creating something meaningful or resolved. It is about allowing yourself to respond to how you feel in the moment. Splashy marks, loose shapes or abstract colour combinations are all perfectly valid.
Colour can shift mood gently, without pressure. Even a short session can help you feel more grounded and present.
If you find yourself feeling low, give yourself permission to paint for how it feels, not how it looks. Art does not always need to be thoughtful or careful to be worthwhile.
