It is very easy to believe that making art needs a big block of time. When that time does not appear, days turn into weeks and the habit quietly slips away.
One of the simplest ways to keep going is to make a commitment to drawing something small every day.
Small daily drawings remove pressure. They do not need to be finished pieces or even particularly good. Their purpose is simply to keep your eye working and your hand moving. A five-minute sketch still counts.
Drawing small also makes starting easier. A tiny space feels far less intimidating than a large blank page. You are more likely to begin, and beginning is often the hardest part.
Over time, these small drawings build confidence and consistency. You start to trust that you can sit down and make marks without needing the “right” conditions.
If daily drawing feels daunting, think in terms of frequency rather than perfection. One small drawing is enough. Some days it might be a scribble, other days something more considered. Both are valuable.
A gentle way to put this into practice is to take part in our Weekend Art Challenges, which are posted here on the blog every Friday. They are designed to give you a simple starting point and you can let your creativity flow.
