This weekend’s art challenge is all about celebrating those tiny but mighty creatures that fill our gardens with movement, colour and sound — bees, butterflies, dragonflies, and all things buzzy.
Whether you are lucky enough to spot a bee gathering pollen on lavender, see butterflies fluttering around buddleia, or catch a dragonfly glinting above a pond, we would love you to capture it in your artwork.
This is a perfect subject for those who enjoy painting close-up studies and experimenting with colour. You might choose to create a delicate botanical-style illustration with pencil and watercolour… or go bold with inks, pastels, or digital art. Think translucent wings, fuzzy bee bodies, vivid flower petals and sunshine tones!
You could even include more than one creature in your piece – how about a whole pollinator party?
A few ideas to get you inspired:
- A sleepy bumblebee resting on a sunflower
- A monarch butterfly with spread wings on a garden wall
- Dragonflies shimmering above still water
- Bees swarming a vibrant wildflower patch
- A close-up of butterfly wing patterns like a mosaic
As always, you can use any medium you like – graphite, pen and ink, coloured pencil, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, digital… whatever inspires you.
We will be sharing the entries on the blog next Thursday, so please send in your artwork before then. You do not need to write anything unless you would like to add a title or short note – we are just excited to see what you create.
Let’s fill the blog with wings, colour, and movement – and celebrate the little creatures that make summer truly sing. 🎨🐝🦋
Happy buzzing!
