We are delighted to feature artwork by student Samuel Froelich, who has recently completed the Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma course. Samuel has enjoyed the challenge and his playful, character-driven artwork brings a lovely sense of energy and expression to the page.
Samuel’s submission for his final assignment (shown below) showcases a group of colourful, whimsical characters that feel right at home in a vibrant picture book setting. With strong shapes, exaggerated expressions and a joyful use of colour, his designs really leap off the page. The confident linework and clean style suggest a natural affinity for visual storytelling.
In his own words:
“I’ve had a fun time trying my best to come up with a concept for the final assignment and hope this meets the requirements. I’m happy to do parts of it again if it isn’t right—trying to closely understand the language and measurements that are required for this final design.”
The Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma is one of our most popular distance learning courses, guiding students through the process of developing illustration skills suitable for children’s publishing. From character creation and visual pacing to understanding narrative flow and reader age, this course is ideal for artists who want to turn their ideas into stories.
