We are thrilled to showcase a wonderful selection of drawings by student Jude Coleman, completed for the Pet Portraits Diploma Course.
Jude explored a range of mediums across the exercises, from coloured pencil and graphite to soft pastel. Each study focuses on a different detail of a subject, allowing for observation and creative decision making. The close up of a tongue in coloured pencil was a good challenge for Jude, who typically prefers pastels.
In the colourful collar study, Jude has allowed the collar to pop beautifully thanks to the careful use of pastel pencils. We also loved the softness and expressive detail in the nose study and the final horse drawings show a great contrast, one a graphite study and the other layered with a soft, vibrant background colour for added atmosphere.
Jude mentioned enjoying these exercises, especially using mixed media for the final horse portrait and we think the results speak for themselves!
If you are inspired by Jude’s progress and are interested in learning how to create your own pet portraits, you can find out more about the course here – Pet Portraits Diploma Course
