I chose the digital illustration course through London Art College after being introduced to the basics of digital design and taking an interest in the new artistic possibilities that came with it. I am an artist in my own right and have developed my artistic skills with traditional mediums over the years. Hence, I chose the digital illustration course to advance my artistic skills in the digital domain and continue on the digital design path. The course was, therefore, for my own enjoyment and as a way to upskill in the pursuit of a creative career.
I had a great time completing this course, even though I had to extend more than once due to changing circumstances, and found it to be highly beneficial in cultivating my digital illustration skills. The course materials were easy to follow, and the assignment prompts allowed for freedom, while also promoting the practice of specific skills and techniques relevant to each module. In the end, I most enjoyed assignments 4 and 5 in which I had a lot of fun playing around with diverse techniques and pushing myself to try new styles in the drawings that I created.
Now, at the end of the course, I feel well-prepared to produce a variety of digital illustrations that span assorted styles and techniques. Monique Bailey was especially helpful in providing constructive feedback and positive commentary on my illustrations, which prompted me to refine certain techniques and critically think about various design principles. I will definitely be experimenting further and continuing to practice my digital illustration skills in my own time, keeping in mind what I learnt and the feedback that I received.
