Weekend Art Challenge – Illustrate a Quote

Welcome to another of our weekend art challenge results! We’re thrilled to share the entries of our latest weekend art challenge – “Illustrate a Quote.” This challenge encouraged students to bring words to life through their artistic interpretations and we are delighted to showcase the artwork submitted below.

We would like to begin by giving a special shout-out to Lucy Coyle, for her stunning illustration that brought song lyrics to canvas. Lucy masterfully captured the essence of a quotation from one of her favourite bands, Hawkwind. Lucy’s creativity and attention to detail truly shone through here – terrific job Lucy!

We also want to acknowledge student Catherine Thompson who illustrated a quote from a beloved Dolly Parton song, which encapsulated the power of resilience and taking charge of one’s life. This is an absolutely superb illustration Catherine, well done to you too!

Finally – Can anyone guess the quote Nina Phillips? Scroll down and see if you can work it out!

Kudos to everyone who took part this week and stay tuned for another exciting challenge which will be unveiled tomorrow. Remember, art has the power to ignite emotions, convey messages, and bring students together. Continue to encourage each other, stay creative, and we’ll see you in the next challenge!

Above is my painting for the Weekend Challenge – it is illustrating a quote by Dolly Parton
Catherine Thompson
Captivating words (I think) by Punjabi-Canadian feminist poet Rupi Kaur. I used her own line breaks, and my own graphic design… but I’ll see what I feel about it in the morning. Which suits the ethos very well, in fact.
Julie Smalley
Illustrate a quote. People tell me I have ‘lovely handwriting’ but calligraphy often involves more illustrating than regular cursive writing. Illuminated lettering dates back to Medievel times. Quote from The Declaration of Arbroath 1320.
Eve Warren
Quote illustration for this week’s challenge…undertaken while vacationing on beautiful Saltspring Island off the coast of Vancouver Island..

Guess the quote?
Mixed medium used: coloured pencils, children’s paint & pipe cleaners.
Nina Phillips
Quotation of song lyrics from one of my favourite bands, Hawkwind.
