Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge where we asked our students to create a piece of artwork using charcoal. They could choose any subject, just as long as charcoal was the main medium. It’s not the easiest of mediums to use, nor the cleanest! We are absolutely delighted to see the results our students created below.
We love Kelley Brautigam’s Orchid drawing, it’s no mean feet to create something like this in charcoal. Well done to Kelly for some lovely drawing and excellent rendering skills. We also want to give a shout out to Gwen’s Wonky Donkey below…. Absolutely love it!!
We hope that everyone has enjoyed working in charcoal. The idea of these challenges are to make our students step outside of their comfort zone a little and with something like this, it really does challenge you!

The composition of the landscape is after a coloured picture, so it is not painted in nature or from memory. I enjoyed to try out the range of
Shading but I think the style and texture maybe hasn’t become pretty typical for Charcoal.
