My drawing and painting course at London Art College

I really regret that this course recently has come to an end. I am very glad to have decided, some 18 months ago, to join this course. I enjoyed it very much.

Ever since my childhood I have been drawing and painting. I even got punished during classes at high school, whilst drawing the other students and the tutor instead of listening to his dull explanations. Yet I found my drawings rather doubtful. After high school I did not continue at an academy of art, but studied architecture at university and became senior lecturer at the university of technology, teaching and researching sustainable architecture. However drawing and painting still attracted and every spare moment I exercised painting.

Since I retired I have more time to dedicate to Drawing and Painting. Thanks to the course and not in the least place to the excellent and stimulating supervision of my tutor Paul Weaver, I think that my work has improved. Whereas I drew and painted, just based on gut’s feeling, I learned the backgrounds of “how and why” one should draw or paint, thereby not only improving skills but knowledge why at the same time.

The course gave me a lot of information on important issues, starting from fundamentals and continuing with aspects such as compositions, use of colours, different media, such as water, oil, acrylic, life and figure drawing, etc.

I found the course very well structured, dealing with the various issues on an analytical manner, very well explained with quite a lot of examples, which I found useful. All-in all it is a very complete course.

Although it has been on distant communication only, the way on which Paul gave comments on my work, his recommendations and stimulations have been very valuable for me. I feel flattered to have finished the course with a distinction grade.

I will certainly continue doing art work and meanwhile have joined a group of painting artists with whom we exchange our ideas, comment on each others work and stimulate each other. Many thanks for the wonderful period with London Art College!
