Patricia Titheridge

Patricia Titheridge is working on the still life course with tutor Alan Dedman and has created three excellent studies for one of her assignments on the course. The first study below is a monochrome painting. This is an excellent practice exercise to help you become familiar with the tones, shapes and light within the scene. It enables you to create a three dimensional painting without the need to worry about colour.

The study below this is the colour version and it is so much easier to paint the second time around as you are more familiar with the scene. You understand how deep your tones need to be. Patricia’s final painting is very rich in tone and has some lovely movement within her brush strokes. Her beautiful dark red leaves on the left are balanced by the brighter greener leaves on the top right. An excellent composition – what do you think?
