Here is a step by step of my latest painting. I have picked still life for this exercise. Below is my setup&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6241\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"649\" height=\"512\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><br \/>\nA4 size Acrylic paper<br \/>\nWhite Gesso<br \/>\nRaw Sienna &amp; Middle Grey Acrylic for priming<br \/>\nAcrylic brush for priming<br \/>\nOil paints (Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber, Titanium White)<br \/>\nPaper towel<br \/>\nOil Painting brushes<br \/>\nTurpentine &amp; Refined Linseed oil<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"414\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using burnt umber &amp; lemon yellow mixed with turpentine, I marked where the subjects will be placed in the painting.\u00a0Then I proceed to fill in the initial tones using cadmium red and lemon yellow. I kept this layer thin by adding few drops of turpentine into the paint.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6243\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-3.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-3-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After completing the initial tone of my subject, I started painting the background noting that the right side of the background is slightly darker than the right and the base is the brightest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-4.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-4-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the Initial tone dries, I started adding more red and orange to give the subject deeper colours. Then I proceeded to add the crease on the background. I try to keep the edges smooth to give it a soft feel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-5.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edward-javier-45206-5-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once dried, I added the stalks of the apples. I also added more white into the reflections of the fruits. I mixed red, yellow, a bit of titanium white and a bit of linseed oil for the detail of the apples. I used burnt umber, yellow and titanium white for the texture of the murcott.
