Shevaun Doherty<\/a>, our very talented tutor for the Botanical Painting Diploma Course<\/a>, has\u00a0received these fabulous paintings from one of her\u00a0students, Hilde Orye. Hilda\u00a0is experienced in drawing and painting however\u00a0is just beginning to use watercolour. \u200bAren’t they wonderful? These are for Assignment 4 on the Botanical Diploma, which deals with\u00a0pen and ink.<\/p>\n

This time of year, it is always a challenge to find suitable subjects to paint, but seeds can be\u00a0a great subject\u00a0choice as they have such interesting\u00a0textures and colour. Hilde’s\u00a0composition is superb and her use of pen and ink is excellent. She began by practicing the tones and stippling technique\u00a0in pencil,\u00a0 before progressing to \u00a0pen and ink. She did lots of colour charts first, trying out the different mixes in order to get the right colour match. It proves that careful planning and practice really do pay off.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
