Student Ailsa Long has been creating colour studies both as practice pieces\u00a0in her sketchbook and more finished studies as you can see below. This one was completed to go along with one of Ailsa&#8217;s assignments for her tutor to view.\u00a0Tutor Alan Dedman is the personal tutor for the Still Life online art course and he himself enjoys painting and drawing still life artwork.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ailsa-Long-38374-still.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5161\" src=\"http:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ailsa-Long-38374-still.jpg\" alt=\"Ailsa-Long-38374-still\" width=\"645\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ailsa-Long-38374-still.jpg 645w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ailsa-Long-38374-still-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Still Life by Paul C\u00e9zanne<\/h2>\n<p>Alisa&#8217;s painting and study actually reminds me of a painting by Paul C\u00e9zanne &#8211;\u00a0<em>Still Life with Water Jug<\/em> circa 1892-3\u00a0which is an oil on canvas. You can see the similarities between both paintings, in the style of mark making and the colours too. Paul C\u00e9zanne Still Life artwork can be viewed on the Tate website &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/artworks\/cezanne-still-life-with-water-jug-n04725\">Paul C\u00e9zanne Still Life<\/a>\u00a0and you can also see an abundance of other artists still life paintings on their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/learn\/online-resources\/glossary\/s\/still-life\">still life page and gallery<\/a> too.<\/p>\n<p>Viewing artists works when learning to paint and draw\u00a0can be very beneficial. It can not only spark ideas for your\u00a0own work, but also help students to look at the composition of the paintings along with\u00a0the\u00a0tones and colours used. As we already know, Paul C\u00e9zanne created his paintings from a number of view points and we can see this technique being used in his still life painting below.<\/p>\n<p>Paul\u00a0C\u00e9zanne painted a number of Still life paintings similar to this, there are a few using this actual jug too. Some are more in depth\u00a0as this one is more of a study and perhaps can be classified as an unfinished piece.
