Welcome to the results of our latest Weekend Art Challenge, where we set our students the tricky task of capturing glass bottles and jars. Glass is one of those subjects that really tests an artist, all those reflections, highlights and see through surfaces to observe, and you rose to it beautifully. It has been a real pleasure to see how carefully you looked and how confidently you translated something so transparent onto the page.

The variety on show has been lovely. From salt and pepper bottles in a caf\u00e9 to a glass teapot, a chilli oil bottle with its scattered dried chillies, and a glass of blood orange juice glowing with colour, each still life has its own character and charm. The mediums are just as varied, with watercolour, acrylics, charcoal, pastel pencil and coloured pencil all making an appearance, and several of you drawing on dark paper to let those bright highlights really sing. It was especially wonderful to hear that Clare returned to still life for the first time in over thirty years and thoroughly enjoyed it, which is exactly what these challenges are all about.

Thank you to everyone who took part and shared such thoughtful, observant work. We hope you enjoyed this one as much as we did, and do stay tuned, because a brand new Weekend Art Challenge will be posted here tomorrow. We can’t wait to see what you create next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
