Welcome to the results of our latest Weekend Art Challenge, where we set our students the wonderfully open task of creating artwork inspired by the letter G. It is such a brilliant idea for a challenge, because a single letter can spark so many different ideas, and once again you took it in the most imaginative directions. It is always a joy to see just how much creativity can grow from one simple prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The range on show has been wonderful. We have garlic in watercolour, geese and goslings, a whole scene of gates, greens, grass and goats glowing in the sunshine, and a lovely study of a girl. There is even a beautifully observed portrait of the great American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, and one student who stumbled upon an actual golden letter G in a restaurant and turned that happy coincidence into a piece all of its own. The mediums are just as varied, with watercolour, pen and ink, acrylics, pencil and charcoal all making an appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to everyone who took part and shared such thoughtful, inventive work. We hope you enjoyed this one as much as we did, and do stay tuned, because a brand new Weekend Art Challenge will be posted here tomorrow. Stay tuned everyone! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this challenge, I was looking for something this Friday that began with the letter\u00a0G when\u00a0I went to a new restaurant in the neighborhood, but then I found an actual letter G as a decoration in the restaurant….what a bizarre coincidence….so I drew it in gold against a background with details from a Turkmenistan carpet that was there.
