Welcome to our latest Weekend Art Challenge results, where we set our students the task of creating artwork using just two colours: purple and orange. What a response we had this week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been such a joy to see how differently everyone interpreted this colour challenge. From Karin’s loose, joyful watercolour abstract, painted while exploring techniques from her new watercolour course, to Alicia’s wonderfully inventive lino print of a mouse clutching a Camembert, coloured with alcohol markers and created to illustrate her own children’s story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subjects chosen across the board were beautifully varied. Ni Ni submitted some beautiful pieces. Giselle captured bees enjoying the heatwave in watercolour and pen, Catherine blended realism with abstraction in a striking pastel and watercolour study of oranges and grapes, and Justin rendered a still life flagon in soft pastel and graphite with real atmospheric depth. Phil’s watercolour explored the pigments themselves, mixing cadmium orange with ultramarine violet and quinacridone violet, Ozlem worked boldly in acrylics on canvas, and Ivana rounded off a truly impressive week of entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you so much to everyone who took part. It is always such a pleasure to see how a simple colour prompt can spark so many different creative ideas! Stay tuned for tomorrows next challenge! <\/p>\n\n\n

I recently enrolled on the watercolour course. I decided  to paint an abstract and have fun while practicing the basic techniques.

Here is a little lino print of a mouse holding some Camembert wrapped in a leaf (the sort of thing you see every day…!). I colored the print in with purple and orange alcohol markers. It’s to illustrate a children’s story I wrote.

Here are some oranges and grapes for this week\u2019s challenge. They started realistic in the middle and moved outwards to shapes. It\u2019s made using pastel and watercolour.
