This weekend\u2019s art challenge brought out everyone\u2019s inner child, with the theme of Soft Toys. From well loved bears to slightly wonky childhood favourites, students embraced the nostalgia and character of their soft toy companions beautifully. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuddly toys might look simple at first glance, but capturing their texture, stitching, worn patches and personality is no easy task. It takes careful observation and a gentle touch to make fabric and fur feel believable in any medium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, we have received a wonderful variety this week. Well done to everyone who took part. Stay tuned tomorrow for another challenge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all started with two soft toys I found at home.
The drawing journey somehow led me back to London \u2014 and slowly turned a little spooky: panda kung-fu zombies, flying ballerina mice\u2026
Who knows what the pencils were trying to tell me \u2014 or what possessed me to choose that dark grey paper as a base?

This is a drawing using pencil and  Derwent Inktense water soluble ink pencils. It portrays a giant ape that I found abandoned one night by a roadside. I took him home, bathed him, ( he completely filled my bath!) and stitched up his damaged face. He sits in my lounge and enjoys a new life saved from fly tipping.
