What a fantastic way to begin the year. Our first Weekend Art Challenge of 2026 invited our students to start the year doing what they love most \u2013 making art! The response has been absolutely brilliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Weekend Art Challenge encourages our students to think outside the box, to perhaps pick up materials that they would not normally use, give something a go that’s new to them. This space is all about experimenting, creating and having fun. It’s less about perfection and more about curiosity and showing up for your practice. These results prove just how effective that mindset can be. Whether bold or subtle, finished or exploratory, every piece here represents an important step forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have not joined in yet, there is no need to worry! Another Weekend Art Challenge will be launching tomorrow, giving you a fresh opportunity to take part and keep the creative momentum going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to everyone who took part. This is a strong and inspiring start to the year, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My artwork shows my wish to start with a new experience, to go into an area, which is not comfortable and well known, it means, that I have to spring in the cold to learn something new, to feel in a different way and challenge myself to leave the ways I know. This is an Indian lady in sari, reference: pexel website. I did with pencil sketch, watercolours, black and white pens and watercolour pencils on watercolour paper 300 gsm 100% cellulose hot pressed A3 size. So, new course started (Portrait Painting), new small brush used. I bought some new watercolour tubes with discounts. I haven\u2019t been using watercolour pencils for awhile. I think I ticked the boxes. I hope you all enjoy painting in new year.

Here are two pieces of work for this week\u2019s challenge!! I\u2019ve tried to cover all three of the challenge options!
1. I had a set of fine liners for Christmas, I have enjoyed experimenting with adding water to make them bleed into the paint.
2. My personal resolution is – \u201cimpossible is not in my dictionary\u201d which both works represent!
3. And finally, cats both big and small are the animals and scene to represent myself this year.
