For this weekend\u2019s challenge, we asked our students to think small – literally! The theme was Miniature Worlds and the task was to create a drawing or painting no larger than postcard size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were blown away by the tiny masterpieces that came in. From whimsical scenes to finely detailed studies, each piece proves that small scale artwork can have just as much impact as a full size canvas. Working at this size encourages a real focus on composition, detail and restraint. Our students rose to the challenge beautifully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it was a peaceful nature scene, a tiny flower, or a wonderful slice of imagination, each entry packed a punch far bigger than its size. Scroll down to explore these miniature marvels and remember, big creativity often comes in small packages!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this challenge, I tried to make the drawing as small as possible – it’s smaller than a postage stamp! I’ve photographed it along with the model, and a grape and pushpin, for scale. I can’t wait to see what everyone else has done…

I was on Holiday in Devon and had been to visit the Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. I enjoyed making this miniature picture from one of the beautiful dahlias I saw there. Coloured pencil drawn in my nature journal sketchbook.

I drew around an actual postcard to get the size!
Here are five postcard sized paintings with a biro as a size reference. They are all painted in acrylics and are inspired by Monet and Van Gogh.

I did this miniature drawing of a fairy. Acrylic & a fine line pen were used. Star stickers and googly eyes were used. For me this really was a challenge because I\u2019m naturally an artist who creates much larger pieces.
