Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge where we set our students the task of creating artwork in only three colours. Limiting your palette can do surprising things. It sharpens your eye, strengthens your composition and forces you to think more carefully about value, contrast, and colour relationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We love how each student interpreted the challenge in their own way, proving that creativity thrives with a few well-chosen constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 Colours: pink, yellow and blue
A pink elephant, blue sky and a sandy beach. I\u2019ve used acrylic paints and felt tip pens with a goggly eye.

I chose permanent rose for pink, cadmium yellow for yellow and cerulean blue for blue. Created with watercolour and a little bit of yellow pastel pencil on 20% cotton cold pressed watercolour paper A3 size. I used given reference photo for the challenge.

This was created in my little sketchbook from an ivy leaf found on my local walk. I chose one each of pink, blue and yellow from my polychromos pencils and blended them with a colourless blender.\u00a0 I used the pink mainly for the shading first. Then I added the blue. The magic happened when I added the yellow. I did add more layers of blue as the green, though lovely, was too bright for the ivy. It was difficult to get the darker green I would have liked for the ivy as the sketchbook paper does not allow lots of layers, but the effect is still interesting.
