We are delighted to showcase the work of student Hazel Cope, who is studying our Colour Awareness Course<\/a> with tutor Monika Cilmi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hazel describes herself as a self-taught artist, and has found the course invaluable for expanding her understanding of colour. In her own words: \u201cI am so enjoying the Colour Awareness Course. It\u2019s been great for me, a self-taught artist, to learn and understand about colour and do the exercises. It has helped me push boundaries in my artistic journey.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her coursework demonstrates both experimentation and bold creativity. In one exercise, Hazel worked with greens, yellows and pinks to create a vibrant, abstract impression of colour blending. This allowed her to explore how different hues can interact, overlap, and create depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a second piece, Hazel was inspired by Nude Fitzroy Street by Sir Matthew Smith, using a striking red and black palette to explore drama and contrast. She explains: \u201cI wanted to create boldness and a dramatic contrast\u2026 It is something I would never have attempted and I was pleased with the strength and energy of both the colours and the pose.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hazel\u2019s work is a wonderful example of how colour can be used to express energy, mood, and atmosphere. The Colour Awareness Course encourages students to go beyond their comfort zones, experiment with different palettes, and understand the emotional power of colour in art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
