We are delighted to share the final assignment work of Jayne Cornforth, who has recently completed the Botanical Coloured Pencil Diploma with tutor Gr\u00e1inne Murphy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her assignment, Jayne created two stunning botanical studies: a Princess Irene Tulip and a Florence Fennel. Each piece demonstrates her careful observation and patient layering of coloured pencil to capture fine botanical detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her tulip composition, Jayne chose to illustrate the full growth cycle, from bulb and roots through to the flowering and withering stages. By including the stigma, pistil, anther and stamen, she created not only a beautiful piece of art but also a study of botanical accuracy. Her use of compositional triangles, curling roots and leaves gives the drawing movement and balance while keeping the viewer\u2019s eye within the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her fennel study, Jayne focused on the structure of the bulb, fennel seeds, and a single enlarged flower to bring variety and interest. She scaled up certain elements to ensure accuracy while maintaining the delicacy and balance required of botanical illustration. The subtle greens, yellows, and ochres show the complexity of the vegetable\u2019s form while capturing its natural freshness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jayne noted that layering colour was one of the most challenging aspects of the course, but with practice, a daylight lamp, and the use of magnification to refine detail, she has made great progress in achieving smooth tonal transitions and three-dimensional form. Her work is a wonderful example of how patience, careful observation, and constructive feedback can build strong foundations for future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want to congratulate Jayne on her achievements \u2013 her studies are beautifully observed and highly detailed, a credit to her commitment throughout the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
