These pieces are from her Set 4 assignments, and they demonstrate both her skill with coloured pencils and her exploration of oils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For her first exercise, Mayumi chose to draw Kelly, a spaniel belonging to her friend. She used coloured pencils to capture Kelly\u2019s joyful expression and the challenge of her tightly curled ears, which she handled beautifully. The background was created with PanPastel, a medium she tried for the first time, and she was impressed with how quickly it could be applied compared to traditional coloured pencil work. This piece was painted on a prepared wooden panel and gave Mayumi the opportunity to revisit oils after many years. She noted the differences between mediums, enjoying the flow of oils compared to pastels, and worked through the challenges of composition and shadowing to ensure Annie felt grounded within the scene. The result is a lively and engaging portrait that captures Annie\u2019s personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mayumi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32969\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mayumi.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mayumi-768x1016.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mayumi-770x1018.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mayumi-360x476.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mayumi\u2019s Workspace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside her finished pieces, Mayumi kindly shared a photo of her working environment. It shows her desk setup with reference photos, brushes, and her painting in progress.
