This has been one of the most popular and inspiring challenges we have run in a while! The seaside theme really seems to have captured everyone\u2019s imagination and the amazing array of artwork we have received has been absolutely wonderful. Every piece tells its own unique seaside story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have even had a fantastic clay piece, hand-painted by student Ozlem, which adds a wonderful three-dimensional twist to the challenge. Plus Ni Ni’s collection of shells glued onto card with modelling paste and painted – superb. We are also loving the sketchbook studies that have been sent in, a big well done to Catherine for her creative work in capturing shells from North Wales and Anne-Marie for her beautiful collation of seaside finds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are real shells stuck on cardboard (basically back of my old watercolour paper pad) with modeling paste and created with acrylic colours. I didn\u2019t paint on the shells but a little stains on them from paints. I went to beach near my house. Original aim was to do sketches but I collected shells and made this. I hope you enjoy my creation!

Something very basic and simple this week. A pencil drawn seashell

I took this picture of some children on a beach last year and decided it would make a great picture to paint.
They look out to sea, lost in their own world; perhaps they found pebbles to throw or imagined sailing and swimming in the depths. It summed up a child’s reaction to everything at the seaside.
