Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge where we set our students the task of creating artwork on the subject of sky and clouds. We asked our students to turn their focus to one of nature\u2019s most ever changing subjects … the sky! Our students have worked wonders this week! From dramatic storm clouds to soft pastel sunsets, the variety of artwork is absolutely stunning. Each piece captures a unique mood, showing just how expressive and dynamic the sky can be in art. The delicate watercolours, bold pastels, and amazing oil paintings, everyone has done a fantastic job interpreting this weekend challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A huge well done to all who took part! We hope these pieces encourage others to look up and take in the beauty of the sky. Scroll down to see all the amazing pieces and don\u2019t forget, a new challenge will be announced tomorrow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some birds flying across the sunrise sky for this week\u2019s challenge. It\u2019s made using watercolour, pastel and pen.

We went to a wedding this Saturday in Granville, Normandy and I thought I’d take the opportunity to draw a sky there. On Sunday morning the sky looked particularly nice set against the lines of the rooftops in the old part of the city.

With watercolour on Windsor and Newton CP watercolour paper (block) size between A5 and A4. This is where I am at the moment, view from hill in Nelson, New Zealand yesterday. Water comes from Tasman sea. I am not sure what bay it is called. Sketched in sketchbook from observation first and re-do with watercolour. I also used white pen.

Painted with 03 ink liner and Tombow water based art marker. The ink liner was supposed to be water resistant. It was not entirely so and the water got a little murky.

As you may guess this piece is based on \u201cthe Scream\u201d by Edvard Munch. It is made using inktense blocks on oil paper.
