Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge where we set our students the task of creating artwork on the subject of Houseplants. We have been so impressed by the variety of techniques used! From delicate watercolours to detailed pen and ink, pen and wash, and coloured pencil pieces, each submission captured the beauty of indoor plants in a unique way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special mention goes to Heather Kennedy for her superb watercolour painting of a pot plant. Elegantly done with beautiful attention to detail, scroll to the bottom of the page to see it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to everyone who took part. Your creativity continues to inspire and we hope our students artwork encourage our readers to pick up their brushes and give this subject a go too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Dracaena fragrans is an offshoot of a now-deceased plant purchased from IKEA 20 years ago. I painted it in Cotman watercolours. I’ve just started the botanical art course and I know this work is not accurate enough, but I was interested to capture the shape and form.

I decided to use watercolour instead of my usual coloured pencils. I do struggle with watercolour but I was quite pleased with the results for once. I’ve said it before , but feel my course is helping me so much, even though it is a different medium.
