Welcome to our latest weekend art challenge where we set our students the task of creating artwork on the subject of Bright Coloured Birds. The variety of artwork we received this week is simply incredible. All such beautiful colours. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared their work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special mention goes to Latha, who overcame a difficult year after fracturing her right hand. Through dedication and physiotherapy, she regained her ability to paint, and her first artwork after recovery matched this weekend\u2019s challenge theme. What an inspiring journey! We hope she has fully recovered and continues to be able to paint and draw again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to all! We hope these artworks inspire you to pick up your pencils and brushes. A new challenge will be announced tomorrow\u2014stay tuned!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I participate mostly in weekend challenges. But because my right hand got fractured I couldn’t do almost for one year. But I took severe physiotherapy and got back in form .My first painting I did to give my therapist after recovery ,matched the topic this weekend. Happy to post here.

Here\u2019s a study of the blue tit, which is a colourful bird that I see in my garden. We have blue tits nesting in our nest box every year, they are lovely to watch.\u00a0 This piece is made using pen and ink and watercolour.

Except for the red beak, a white zebra finch is not very colourful, so I added colour to the background instead. I used waterproof india ink for the outline and liquid watercolor for the rest.

I enclose a picture of a mandarin duck. Although not native to this country the outrageously coloured mandarins have made a home here. A single pair lives on the canal near my home in Calderdale. Their feather colours and markings are almost unbelievable!

Here is my weekend challenge. I did this cardinal based off of the reference photo in watercolors. I absolutely love cardinals so I enjoyed making this one (my first bird) a lot! I am currently in the watercolor diploma class.\u00a0

Here are two hyacinth macaws painted very loosely in watercolour (without any pre-drawing), I\u2019ve then added a little detail with watercolour pencils – it looks like one is telling the other off!!!!

This has to be one of my favourite themes! As a keen photographer, I have a huge catalogue of bird pictures to choose from. Great Tits are very common where I live, and such beautiful birds.
