Instead of depicting recognisable objects or scenes, abstract artists focused on colour, shape, and form to convey emotions, ideas, or even music. Emerging in the early 20th century, abstract art challenged viewers to see the world\u2014and art\u2014in a completely new way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is Abstract Art?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Abstract art avoids realistic representation, instead using non-objective elements like lines, geometric shapes, and colours to evoke feelings or explore concepts. It\u2019s often divided into two categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Non-Objective Art<\/strong>: Completely abstract, with no ties to physical reality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Semi-Abstract Art<\/strong>: Simplifies or distorts real-world forms while still suggesting their presence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The movement arose during a period of social and technological change, as artists sought to break free from traditional constraints and reflect the complexities of the modern world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Artists and Their Work<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are five key works and artists who shaped the rise of abstract art:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Wassily Kandinsky \u2013 <em>Composition VII<\/em> (1913)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Kandinsky is often regarded as the father of abstract art. <em>Composition VII<\/em> is a chaotic yet harmonious explosion of colour and form. Jackson Pollock \u2013 <em>No. 5, 1948<\/em><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Pollock\u2019s drip paintings represent a later phase of abstraction, known as Abstract Expressionism. In <em>No. 5, 1948<\/em>, he dripped and splattered paint onto a large canvas, creating a web of texture and movement.
